Why Hotels Should Move to Become More Sustainable

Sustainable hotels are popping up quickly and this is why. By 2023 California is banning all single-use plastics and I know some great hotel chains already abiding by those rules, such as Peninsula Hotels and Edition Hotels. Don't be the last ones to convert to green practices!

Increasingly, more and more hotel guests are seeking out green hotels that serve eco-friendly products & services.

Going green is a way to increase your guest retention rates and satisfying your return hotel guests.

Sustainability in the hospitality business is becoming essential. One in three consumers prefer sustainable brands and you bet the hospitality industry is noticing!

Sustainabillity has always been a core value to us here at LEISURE. Our Classic T-shirt Collection is designed and manufactured in the USA with one of the rarest fabrics. Along with changing your products, there have been a number of programs to become certified so that your guests can trust the green practices you have and there isn't any greenwashing going on! Some of those programs include:

1. GreenLeaders Program.  This program was created by TripAdvisor to search properties that are "committed to green practices like recycling, local and organic food, and electric car charging stations."

2. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) This Article explains LEED... "To earn LEED certification, a building is awarded points for satisfying certain green requirements in six categories- Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, Materials & Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality and Innovation in Design."

3.BREEAM building certified. BREEAM is the world's 1st sustainability assessment method for buildings. Three of Peninsula Hotel properties are now under BREEAM standards . You can learn more about it here

The number one reason to move your property more sustainable is to save, mostly by reducing your energy & water consumption. 1Hotels provide guests refillable water bottles in the room instead of plastic water bottles.

Please let us know how your property is saving by going green!
